This article discusses the ins and outs of how Quotemonster uses 2FA to help keep your account secure.
Why do we need 2FA?
Passwords can be shared, stolen in phishing scams, used on multiple systems, or lost in a data breach. Adding 2FA makes it much harder for a cybercriminal to access information held in your quotes and statements of advice.
How does 2FA work?
The options available are email verification or authenticator apps. Both Google and Microsoft authenticator apps are supported. Many of you will already have one of these authenticator apps downloaded.
When logging into your account, you use both your password and temporary code that is sent via email or generated on your phone’s authentication app (e.g., Google authenticator or Microsoft authenticator).
What devices can I use, and can I use it without internet?
It depends on what 2FA method you're using:
- Authenticator app - You don't need internet access or phone reception to receive 2FA codes through the app. You can use Android, iOS, and Windows phone or tablet devices.
- Email - You do need internet access to receive emails containing your 2FA codes. You can do this on any device that you can receive emails on.
If you change phones the authenticator app usually does not transfer over your data so you will need to contact our team to reset your 2FA to enable you to connect your new device.
Do I need to enter a 2FA code every time I sign in?
Whenever you sign in with a new device or browser, you'll need to enter a 6 digit verification code.
If you don't want to enter a code every time, choose the Trust this device for 30 days option as you sign in (a small tick box underneath the sign-in details). Quotemonster will remember this device and you won't be asked for a code for the next 30 days.
Please note that some browsers don't allow this option and will clear the data each time you exit the browser. If this is the case with your browser settings you may be asked for a 6 digit verification code each time you login. Please check out our other Help articles for specific browser instructions to check these settings if needed, or contact our team and we can email them to you.
How can I reset my 2FA?
If you have gotten a new phone and your authenticator app no longer works, or you simply want to change from email to app or visa versa, you will need to contact our team to reset this for you. It only takes a few moments, and once done the system will prompt you to set it up again when you login to Quotemonster next.
We have recorded a quick and easy video that will step you through the set-up process for both the email and authenticator app method, click HERE to watch the video on our Youtube channel.
